Television In the Newark City SchoolsThe Newark City School System has utilized television for instruction in the classroom and for communication with the public since the 1950's. The School System owned and operated a PBS broadcast station from March, 1963 until July, 1976. WGSF Television, UHF Channels 28 and 31 are documented as WGSF Blogs (Blog 1) and Information (Blog 2) Leland Hubbell, Administrator and Originator of these blogs, worked for the Newark City Schools from September of 1964 until retirement in October, 1995, as the Chief Engineer/General Manager of television station WGSF and then as Manager of the TV Center (CATV-19) I have in my possession many of the documents and correspondence relating to the development of the television station, and will supplement that with recollections of events and activities that shaped what is now known as NSN-19. Today, the "Newark Schools Network (NSN-19) is an educational television station broadcasting 24 hours a day, 365 days a year on the Adelphia Cable System in Newark and surrounding Licking County. NSN-19 is located in the state-of-the-art Broadcast Center owned by the Newark City Schools. In addition to student and district programming, NSN-19 also airs a community bulletin board." Hopefully, others will endeavor to add to this history of television utilization by the Newark City Schools. Leland Hubbell |
